Book Tasting Event

Note: no physical eating of the books will occur. Teens will have a chance to briefly examine and read the first part of several books. They will then rate and comment on the books. At the end of the evening there will be a drawing for a box of chocolates and each teen will have an opportunity to check out one of their favorite books from the event. Refreshments will be provided.

Teen Advisory Council

James Prendergast Library staff recently created a Teen Advisory Council! Teens from the Jamestown area volunteer their time at the library and are now a voice for the young adults we serve.  Members of the council are responsible for teen book suggestions, developing and planning events for teens at the library, and providing assistance during other library events. The council members will be helping patrons during the Tech Gadget Guidance sessions as well as lending a hand with activities in the Children’s Room.  The Teen Advisory Council is coordinated by Adult Services Librarian, Kristie Bemis. Spread the word to area teens that there is a lot to do at the Prendergast Library!

Library To Host Teen Book Talk

Ryan Davis will present a book talk at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, in the teen area at Prendergast Library.

The three books to be described will be “Daughter of Smoke and Bone” by Laini Taylor, “Gil’s All Fright Diner” by A. Lee Martinez, and “The Books of Magic” by Neil Gaiman.

Taylor’s main character is meet Karou, who has bright blue hair, sketches monsters, speaks many languages, disappears on mysterious “errands,” and is about to discover who she is.

Martinez tells the story of Duke, a werewolf, and Earl, a vampire, who get asked by a diner owner to take care of her zombie problem.

Gaiman’s book is about Timothy Hunter, a young boy who could become the most powerful magician ever known, but must take a journey to the past and future and meet a wide range of people in the process of discovering his destiny.

The speaker is working toward his master’s degree in library and information science at the University at Buffalo after earning a bachelor’s degree in history. He is interested in working with young adult materials and programming in a public library.

A resident of Fredonia, Davis enjoys reading graphic novels and science fiction fantasy.

Prendergast Library is located at 509 Cherry St., Jamestown. For information about this program, which is free and open to the public, call 484-7135, Ext. 225.
