Author To Visit Prendergast Library

Author Lorraine Butler Simcox will visit Prendergast Library at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19. The event, including a puppet show and book signing, will be held in the library’s Fireplace Room.

Lorraine Butler Simcox was born and raised in Western New York. She fondly remembers walking to Prendergast Library as a child while living in Jamestown.

Her first children’s book, A Single Red Thread, was inspired by her own experience adopting her daughter, Lillian. The book is a heartwarming story of enduring hope, extraordinary sacrifice and lives woven together by a single red thread.

The story is inspired by a true story and based on the ancient Chinese belief that an invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet regardless of time, place or circumstance – the red thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break.

“With over 143 million children worldwide orphaned, or in need of adequate parental care, A Single Red Thread is committed to making a difference in the life of these children,” the author said. “It is our hope to become a voice for these children by raising adoption awareness, encouraging adoption by assisting parents with resources, and simply letting others like you know how you can make a difference.”

Proceeds from the sale of this book go to benefit orphans worldwide. Preorder forms are available at the Children’s Room desk. The author will bring the preordered, signed copies with her. For more information about the book, visit www.ASingleRedThread.com.

Ms. Simcox will visit as part of the 2008 New York State Summer Reading Program, “Catch the Reading Bug,” which is supported by Federal Services and Technology Act funds, awarded to the New York State Library by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The library is located at 509 Cherry St., Jamestown. For more information, call 484-7135, Ext. 234.
