Library Updates

Dear Community Member,

In 2022, the James Prendergast Library needs to fill five Board of Trustees seats. We are seeking candidates who believe in the importance of libraries and are committed to the library’s mission and strategic plan.

The public library is the ultimate possibilities place. Whether you love to read, are just learning, or are working on early literacy —we have resources and staff to help people at whatever level is right for them. But today’s library is about more than just reading. We offer life-long learning through classes, events, an accessible collection, and even play. We want the community to experience the joy of discovery here, including plenty of activities for all ages in the Makerspace.

Each month we provide over 50 programs for all ages. From storytimes to computer classes, we are constantly expanding what we offer to the community. We also visit schools, afterschool programs, community events, providing storytimes, Mobile Makerspace activities, and information.

Staff is here to connect people to the information and resources they need. From technology training to financial literacy, learning a language, job-hunting, test-prep, homework help, navigating new stages of life, and small-business resources– we help them reach their goals. We are also here for immediate needs, providing free wifi, summer meals for kids, a warm location during the winter, and a cool place during the summer.

For more information on the Board of Trustees visit Contact the library at (716) 484-7135 with any questions.

The public library is the community’s living room, and the more voices involved, the better we can serve the community’s needs. Therefore, we hope you will consider applying to join the Board of Trustees of the Prendergast Library. Together, we can accomplish great things!
