Welcome Back to the Library!

Dear Prendergast Library Patrons and Supporters:

Beginning Wednesday, July 1, the Prendergast Library will reopen the building to the public.

After closing on March 16, we are very excited to welcome the public inside the Library. Safety is our number one priority, and we will be following strict social distancing and cleaning measures. All library staff and patrons will be required to wear a face covering. We have installed bright colored  “spacing dots” in key locations to enforce the recommended six-foot social distancing.

Under recommended guidelines, all returned materials (books, DVDs, CDs, etc.) will be quarantined for a minimum of 96 hours before being placed back on shelves. Additionally, we will be following cleaning and disinfecting guidelines as per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Given onsite staffing restrictions set forth by Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Executive Orders, the Library’s temporary hours will be 10:00-6:00 Monday-Friday and Saturday 10:00-4:00.

Meeting rooms will remain closed for an interim period. Virtual library programs will continue, and library materials borrowed from March 16, 2020, will not be due until July 15, 2020. Curbside pickup of materials will continue on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:00-6:00. Patrons can use this service by calling 716-484-7135 or email reference@prendergastlibrary.org.

New policies in place for reopening include:

1. Masks are required for all staff and patrons.
2. A parent or guardian must accompany children under 14.
3. Social distancing will be enforced. Therefore the Library may have to limit the entry of patrons if the numbers exceed occupancy allowed.
4. Patrons are encouraged to limit their time in the Library to one hour.
5. We have 5 children’s room computers open and 8 adult computers open. Computer time is limited to one hour.

These past few months have been extremely challenging for everyone. The staff and board of trustees of the Prendergast Library have been working hard to provide services and prepare for reopening. We are grateful for your ongoing support and patience.
