Construction Closure FAQ
The library will be closed to the public from September 2 to October 5, 2025, and will reopen with modified services on Monday, October 6, through October 31, 2025. The project’s anticipated completion date is November 1, 2025; this time frame is subject to change.
Patrons can still drop off items at Prendergast during the closure. A temporary outdoor Bookdrop will be placed on the library’s patio for quick and easy accessibility. For safety, the library’s front entrance will not be accessible during construction.
During the closure, library staff will continue to fulfill materials requests. Holds can be placed online by going to catalog.prendergastlibrary.org, emailing [email protected], or calling 716-484-7135. Materials will be sent to the library of the patron’s choosing within the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System. Patrons can also call or visit other nearby libraries to place holds and borrow material. Please ensure you check the open hours of the different libraries before you visit. See below for information on nearby libraries.

Falconer Public Library is located 3 miles east on Route 394. The library has computers, wifi, faxing, and B&W printing available. Hours are 9:00AM-5:00PM, Monday through Friday, and 9:00AM-12:00PM on Saturday.
Fluvanna Free Library, 3532 Fluvanna Ave, Jamestown, NY 14701
Fluvanna Free Library is located 4 miles north on Route 430. The library has computers, wifi, faxing and Color and B&W printing available. Hours are 10:00AM-5:00PM, Monday through Friday, and 10:00AM-2:00PM on Saturday. Contact the library if a study room is needed.

Hazeltine Public Library is located 5 miles south off of Forest Avenue in Busti, NY. The library has a limited number of computers, wifi, faxing and printing available. Hours are 1:00PM-7:00PM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:00AM-5:00PM, Tuesday and Thursday, and 10:00AM-1:00PM on Saturday.

Myers Memorial Library is located 7 miles south off of Route 62. The library has computers, faxing and printing available. Hours are 10:00AM-1:00PM, and 3:00PM-6:00PM, Monday through Friday, and 10:00AM-1:00PM on Saturday. Contact the library if a study room is needed.

Chautauqua Opportunities located at 402 Chandler Street, Jamestown NY, 14701 has limited computers available and allows printing. There are two meeting rooms available for limited use.
Chautauqua Works, located at 4 East 3rd Street, Jamestown, NY 14701 has computers available for job-related usage and up to 20 pages of printing allowed. They also provide faxing.
Prendergast staff will answer the phone or return calls for patron questions and assistance, Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. During off-hours, patrons can leave a message, and calls will be returned the next business day. Construction will impact some phone extensions; please call the library directly at 716-484-7135.
The library will be offering limited offsite programming in September. Tuesday and Wednesday storytimes at 10:30AM will take place at the church across the street from the library. Books & Brews will still take place at the Labyrinth Press Co. on Sept. 10 at 5:30PM. Any pop-up and outreach events will be advertised on the library’s website and Facebook page as the information becomes available. Once the first phase of the project is complete, the library will open to the public for modified services. The anticipated reopening date is October 6, 2025. Regular library hours will resume: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During the modified opening, the Circulation Desk will relocate to a temporary location in the lobby, and meeting rooms will not be available for rental. The library’s Makerspace will temporarily serve as the Children’s Room, which will be closed. Staff will be able to access materials in the Children’s Room upon request.
